It’s important to choose a carpet cleaner carefully. Forrest Gump’s famous quote about life being ‘like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get‘ was in reference to life being unpredictable and full of surprises. The same applies when you choose a carpet cleaner to come into your home. If you don’t do your research and choose wisely, you run the risk of being unpleasantly surprised.
One of our new clients recently told us a story of how she once hired what she thought was a professional carpet cleaner, only for them to turn out to be some students making extra money using machines hired from a supermarket. If you’ve been disappointed by an amateur carpet cleaner, you may not only be out of pocket, you could also have ended up with damaged carpet. Carpet cleaning is one area where you really need a professional you can trust. Below we’ve outlined some ways to spot the real deal, so unlike Forrest Gump, you will know what you’re going to get!
How does the company present itself?
“Never judge a book by its cover” is not the phrase to think of when choosing a professional carpet cleaning company. Their company website should be professional and regularly updated. Vehicles should be clearly marked with the company logo and phone number. Professional companies also generally have a uniform and their appearance should be just as clean as they make the carpets look. The company should also have a professional email (not ending in gmail.com, for example). Overall, it’s about being attentive and taking pride with every detail of what they do.
How is the company’s customer support?
A phone call or email can tell you all you need to know about working with a carpet cleaning professional. When the company answers the phone, are they polite and professional? Did they respond to your email enquiry in a timely manner? Ask some questions about your needs and verify if the person on the other end is keen to be helping you. You want to make sure you are getting your carpets cleaned by someone who will listen to your concerns and get the job done the way you want!
What are customers saying about them?
Whilst a few reviews can be faked, it’s hard to make up loads of reviews on Google or Facebook. Reviews are a quick and easy way to get some insight into the quality of the carpet cleaner and the satisfaction rate of their customers. If a company has more negative reviews than positive ones, chances are, they are not to be trusted.
How many years of experience do they have?
When choosing a professional carpet cleaner, one important thing to remember is to check their experience and length of time in business. If they’ve been in the business for a long time, chances are they’re good at what they do. If they are new, check to see their references. If they don’t have many, it’s probably a better choice to stick with a more experienced company.
Beware of offers that sound too good to be true
If you get a voucher with a promise such as “Three Rooms for just $56.00.” Do not believe this. Those offers can work as a “bait and switch.” The cleaners will arrive and start charging extra for pre-treatment, for every spot, for deodoriser, stain protectant and all kinds of unimaginable add-ons. A reputable carpet cleaner does not need to offer crazy deals. They will give you a quote and stick to it.
